Camp through the lens of Ada Strugacz

On October 6-13, class 3b students stayed at the science camp in Hel.

In the first days of the camp, students took part in biology, chemistry and Polish language classes. They spent their free time on the beach. In the evenings, they participated in biological evenings, competed in competitions or performed experiments.

In the following days, students participated in classes at the Gdynia Aquarium (fish anatomy, water chemistry), in classes conducted by the research stations of the University of Gdańsk in Hel, learned about the biology of seals and porpoises, flora and fauna, and ecological problems of the Baltic Sea. Classes were held at the University’s research station – in the sealarium, and included lectures on marine biology and field activities. In addition, students visited the Gdynia Aquarium and participated in classes conducted by the employees of the Aquarium (water chemistry, coral reef, fish anatomy). Classes were also conducted in the accommodation place by the teachers of our school. Free time was devoted to walks and rest on the beach.

Memories of the camp

I will never forget the sight of the Seal (by the way, the most handsome individual in the herd, which were seals), which was so excited about the photo that I absolutely wanted to take for him. He, posing for photos like a real model (I can assure you that no one can accuse him of lack of skills in this field;]), won the favors of visitors from the beginning, you can even say that he “stole the hearts” of other individuals of the opposite sex. It should be noted, however, that Unda Marina turned out to be not much worse, as she delighted everyone, not only with her unique name, but also with obedience. Anyway, they were all well-trained, huge emotions among us – visitors – evoked the sight of seals heading for Targets, i.e. stamps assigned to each animal. Each of the seals that have correctly carried out the order receives their own delicacy – herring … what they cannot do to eat this much-awaited lunch or dinner in peace? Turning on land, opening the mouth, jumping into the water, or the other way round, from water to land, reaching the target .. all this is within their reach and seals, at the cost of consuming herring, are able to carry out all these commands without murmuring. What is most surprising, however, is the peace and trust that baby seals have in the people who care for them, it is simply unbelievable.

It is necessary to admit that the seal center in Hel, and more specifically the main reason for the creation of this place – seals, is one of the biggest surprises and positive surprises in our research camp. we would love to go back there again, of course with the same line-up!

Camp participant

Herring section, water chemistry,
There was also a nice fashion show.

Hel is a beautiful city in the middle of the Baltic Sea,
Where fish, seals and porpoises are countless.
Our whole class had a good time,
She caught some fish, sliced the herring,
She made a few biological experiments,
She also had an interview with the element and a fashion show.
Because Hel is a small city, it was also in Gdynia,
The sun was shining there, but it wasn’t time for a mini.
Dinners were eaten in the Old Smokehouse,
Sometimes you traveled near Jastarnia.
Our Złota was our home,
Our Lord always watched over our sleeping.
I have to finish my presentation, because the camp was too short,
I still feel the effects of this nice trip.
