First class bilingual students with English had the honor of listening to an extremely colorful lecture entitled “Speech and shine – on Shakespeare’s witches in Polish translations of Macbeth”, during which they heard about Elizabethan theater and the genesis of Macbeth. At the end of the lecture, a short workshop was held, during which the complexities of translating the first scene of Shakespeare’s tragedy were discussed.
On 30 November 2017 Dr Michał Choiński from the Institute of English Studies of the Jagiellonian University was the guest of VI LO. The students of English bilingual classes in our school had the opportunity to participate in a lecture entitled: “Speech and shining – on Shakespeare’s witches in Polish translations of Macbeth”. They could learn why Shakespeare’s works are worth becoming familiar with, what the importance of the Three Witches in ‘Macbeth’ is and how difficult it is to translate the verse “Fair is foul, and foul is fair” to Polish without losing its hidden meaning .
