Appeal of Remembrance on Szeroka Street – October 28, 2016

“Remembering the past means commitment to the future” – John Paul II

October 28, 2016 at ul. In front of the Old Synagogue, an anniversary ceremony was held in memory of thirty Poles shot in this place by the Nazis in 1943, as part of the occupation policy on collective responsibility. The execution was a response to the attack carried out by the Polish underground against two German officials of the General Government and Gestapo informants. The community of High School No. 6 has been taking care of this special place in Kazimierz for many years.

At 12 o’clock, students from classes 3F, 3H2, 2C and 1F gathered around the modest monument to the victims under the care of the headmaster Iwona Fedan and their teachers. The ceremony was honored by the representatives of the First District Council: Mrs. Anna Gapys, Mr. Jacek Balcewicz and Mr. Grzegorz Sobol, and the deputy commander of the 1st Commissariat, Mr. Mariusz Serafin. The appeal was led by prof. Grzegorz Harabasz and priest Łukasz Bugała said a prayer for all those who fell victim to German Nazism in Poland.
