A TRIP TO LONDON (November 26th – December 2nd, 2022)

At the end of November the 4th and some of 3rd grade students went on a trip to London. The bus drive was extremely long and exhausting. The program was tight, so we were bound to start sightseeing right after we arrived. Our plans for the day included visiting museums, London districts – Greenwich and Canary Wharf (the latter was a mixture of glass, skyscrapers and modern architecture), a ride in a cable car above the Thames. Despite the rain, the ride was calming and enjoyable. In the evening everyone finally met their host families. They dearly welcomed us and were very friendly. Next day we went to see Oxford and Windsor Castle. It was a great opportunity to learn a little history and see absolutely incredible chambers and surroundings of the estate. Weather also surprised us, because it was wonderfully warm and sunny. The weather combined with stunning views perfectly reflected the charms of autumn. Every day we were visiting different museums, for example my personal  favourites – the Natural History Museum and the British Museum. We also had the pleasure of admiring the panorama of the city from different perspectives, the one from the London Eye and the other from the observation deck on the top of St. Paul’s Cathedral. Of course, there had to be time for the most famous landmarks such as the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace or the one and only Big Ben. One of my favourite places was Chinatown. We could try a variety of Asian street food and appreciate the unique architecture and decorations. Of course, these are not all the places we went to, describing every single one would be simply too long :). To wrap it all up, the trip was definitely full of wonderful and breathtaking places and views and it also was an opportunity to learn a little about them. It was a different experience for every single person and I think everyone got to take something for themselves from it.

A Visit to the Rakowicki Cemetery – 1M2

On the 24th of October 2022 class 1M2 went to the Rakowicki Cemetery with the form
teacher – professor Paulina Pacyna. We put the grave candles on the tombs of former
teachers, who left their mark on VILO’s society. We cleaned the graves of fallen soldiers,
who died in 1919- 1920. This experience not only let us have a while of reflection, but also
opened our eyes to the elusiveness of a human life. It taught us to remember about people
who passed away and it gave us a lot of good energy. Besides, we spent time actively
outside being surrounded by beautiful Polish autumn.

Integration trip 3C

September turned out to be a little bit more fun than usual for class 3C, as we finally managed to go on an integration trip, although it was more like a history lesson.

First, we visited the Kłodzko Fortress and began an outdoor game, in which we were divided in two groups:  Prussia and Austria. It was a great lesson on the Thirty Years’ War for us as we could understand what exactly was going on at that time. Later that day we went on a night sightseeing tour through Kłodzko, quite exhausted after the  outdoor game. Our guide, however, made it really interesting and eventful. By ‘eventful’ I mean the sudden downpour catching us at the end of our walk J.

Wednesday meant hiking in the Stołowe Mountains, to be specific – Szczeliniec Wielki (the highest peak of the range) and the picteresque labyrinth in the Błędne Skały. It was really  challenging for some of our classmates, especially the ones with claustrophobia. Our guide was very supportive of us, showing us the most breathtaking  landscapes. In the evening we visited the Kłodzko underground route where we could feel the atmosphere of the bygone times in the town .

On Thursday  we went to the majestic Książ Castle in Wałbrzych with its Palm House. Moreover, we visited the Church of Peace in Świdnica – an amazing wooden Baroque temple.

Finally, we had an enjoyable hiking experience in the Czeck Rock Town in Adrspach, one of the largest rock towns in Central Europe.

Overall, the trip was very educational and eye-opening, showing us a big part of the Polish history as well as some of the most beautiful rock formations .

Urban Game – 1M2

The new school year brings countless challenges that we have to face. New high school, teachers, as well as new people that it would be wise to get to know better to ,”survive,” the coming years, so the 1M2 Integration Day and playing an urban game was a hit.

Divided into two groups we started the game. Fortitude and mobilization accompanied us. Interesting and educative tasks led us through historic Kazimierz. Thanks to that we very well know now synagogues, museums, charming pubs and mysterious streets of Kazimierz. Our tasks were not only aimed at sightseeing, but also developing group cooperation and communication. We were looking for and collecting information, engaging each of us in turn. We helped each other brainstorming. We also soared to artistic achievements as we presented interpersonal communication in various ways – we sang (which was more of screaming) in the street musical masterpieces including a piece of music by ”Queen”. We tried to be young poets, composing poems about public transport (and a sandwich with meat). We also tried to be like the famous director- Steven Spielberg and we shot films showing around the marvellous city of Zapiekankas 😉. We visited the place where he shot the scene for his well-known film “Schindler’s list”.

The end of our great adventure was entering the “Good Lood” ice cream shop. Integrated and happy we went back home.

Facing Britain – 1M2

Cracow, 23.09.2022

Today we visited MuFo, one of the three photography museums in Cracow. We went to see the exhibition of British documentary photography from the years 1963-2020 called “Facing  Britain” (,,Zobacz: Brytania”). The display showed the works of mainly British photographers such as David Hurn, Anna Fox and Martin Parr. The exhibition gives insight on how the photographers looked at the world that surrounded them when mines around GB were being shut down, Margaret Thatcher was PM, the consumption of goods was growing and the society was divided. This exposition doesn’t only give viewers a different perception of the social and political life of GB during that period but it also focuses on everyday life of the multicultural and multi-ethnic community.
