Currently, young people decide about their future already at the lower secondary level, declaring their education profile when choosing a secondary school or technical school. The cooperation of Junior High Schools with AGH and High School No. 6 will be mainly focused on activities in the field of professional pre-orientation, development of natural interests and the elimination of language barriers.

Earth Day – April 22, 2013
On April 22, our school participated in the Earth Day celebrations. This year, chemistry and biology teachers encouraged students to get involved in cleaning the green areas closest to the building of the VI Lyceum – the Vistula boulevards. Walking through the daily walking routes at a pace several times slower than usual, allowed us to look at the Krakow landscape from a different perspective, which discovered its extraordinary beauty, and at the same time the rubbish littering everywhere, which was not enough to collect the bags provided for this purpose.

Pole exchange 2013
April 15-22, 17 EF students, Ms. Kempski and Mr. Backhaus took part in the exchange with a school in Krakow.
Poland is actually not a typical exchange destination, so we were all particularly excited. Because of the strike hardly any planes flew on the day of arrival, but we were lucky and were able to take off with a small delay. When we arrived in Poland, after an hour’s bus ride, our respective exchange partners greeted us excitedly. You quickly found each other and already here you noticed that our teachers had assigned us really well, because the chemistry was right right away. The excitement and the hunger defeated the tiredness of the journey and plans were already made for the evening. On that first evening, small groups were formed that also did something together over the course of the week. Some went ice skating or swimming, others sat down, had a drink and talked. Communication worked great despite the hurdles. At one table it was in German, English, Polish or with hands and feet
talked and laughed. The teachers had planned activities together for almost every day, of course. Rur visited a museum, explored Krakow and its history, drove to Auschwitz, visited a real salt mine 700 meters underground and walked through the city’s Jewish quarter to learn more about the past of this religion.
The absolute highlight was the trip to Zakopane. Days in advance, our host parents warned us about the cold there. They took care of us all the time and were very warm.
In the morning they gave us sturdy shoes, thick jackets and enough provisions.
We wrapped up warm, drove to the mountain and started hiking. After a few meters we noticed that we had been worried in vain because the sun was beating down on the snow. Snowball fights began and especially Mr. Backhaus was a popular target. In general, there was a lively atmosphere throughout the week. True friendships were formed, which is why saying goodbye on Friday morning was all the more difficult.
The time was really nice and Krakow and the Polish culture we got to know were a great experience.
We look forward to the time when our exchange students come to Jülich!
EU debate with guests from Belgium
EUROPEAN DEBATE
VI High School Adam Mickiewicz in Krakow – Koninklijk Atheneum Koekelberg in Brussels
On Wednesday, April 25, 2012, our high school hosted an international debate on contemporary problems of the European Union. It was attended by students of our school and invited guests – 50 students of the Koninklijk Atheneum Koekelberg Associated School UNESCO from Brussels.
The debate was started by Mr. Czesław Wróbel, who welcomed the director of the secondary school, Serge Algoet, invited teachers, students and students of the 6th Lyceum. Students from both schools then took part in a debate on the following topics:
The role and importance of the EU presidency.
Advantages and disadvantages of the euro as the European currency.
Financial solidarity in Europe.
Reasons for economic emigration in Europe.
After lunch, the guests and the students of Secondary School No. 6 took part in museum workshops organized at Collegium Maius, the Stanisław Wyspiański Museum, the MOCAK Museum of Contemporary Art, the Market Square Undergrounds and the National Museum.
We hope that a successful debate and meeting with teachers and students from Belgium will result in successful cooperation between high schools in the future.

Farewell to high school graduates – April 26, 2013
On April 26, 2013, we said goodbye to the graduates. This year’s third-class farewell ceremony gained a special setting. In the hospitable walls of the Pedagogical University, it was graced with the presence of exceptional guests:
Mr. Bogusław Kośmider – Chairman of the Krakow City Council,
Director Wanda Brześcińska – representing the Małopolska Superintendent of Education,
His Magnificence Vice-Rector of the Pedagogical University – prof. dr hab. Jan Suchanicz,
Mr. Marek Wasiak – President of the Board of the National Pantheon Foundation.
The host of the ceremony was honored by the Director of the VI Lyceum, Dr. Czesław Wróbel.
Apart from kind words to graduates, distinctions and awards, congratulatory letters for parents, Silver Pen awards in the category of Best Graduate of Secondary School No. 6 for Justyna Kiełkowicz and in the category of Winner of Competitions and Olympics for Katarzyna Parvi, civic nominations deserve emphasis: on the initiative of the National Pantheon Foundation, each graduate he received a copy of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, the state flag and the text of Mazurek Dąbrowski.
Thus, the step into adulthood symbolically became a step into the rights and obligations of a member of a community larger than a family or school.
In the artistic part, the audience could watch the performance “Fiddler on the Roof” prepared by younger colleagues and directed by Dr. Marlena Maciejewska. And finally, souvenir photos, last emotions, flowers, thanks. Now it remains to pass the matriculation examination, and then … just life.
Everyday life in occupied Krakow – on the 70th anniversary of the liquidation of the Krakow ghetto.
On May 15, 2013, the corridors of our school were filled not only with nervous high school graduates, but also students of secondary schools in Lesser Poland who came to the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the liquidation of the Krakow ghetto. Over a hundred students filled the Aula VI of the Secondary School, the co-organizer of the ceremony.
The director of the VI LO solemnly welcomed all the gathered guests. The introductory words were given by Aleksander Palczewski – the Małopolska School Superintendent and the originator of the ceremony. Not only our school was involved in their organization, but also the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków and the Kraków branch of the Institute of National Remembrance. Therefore, the opening ceremony could not miss the MHK Director – Michał Niezabitowski and Dr. Mateusz Szpytma, an employee of the Institute of National Remembrance.
The gathered young people listened with great interest and concentration to the lecture by Dr. Mateusz Szpytma, and then watched over 40 minutes of Steven Spielberg’s film Schindler’s List. Then it was divided into 6 workshop groups in which it competed for extraordinary prizes.
Two of the groups went to Pomorska Street to one of the wards, where work was carried out with the text about the exhibition, as well as a drama in which students could play the role of people arrested by the Gestapo. Another workshop group went to the Eagle Pharmacy, also a branch of the Museum, located in the very heart of the once existing Krakow ghetto, so the task that the students had to solve was related primarily to the fate of the ghetto inhabitants. There was also the Schindler’s Factory, made available by the MHK. And there young people struggled with tasks related to the figure of Oskar Schindler. The last two groups took part in a field game covering the area of the ghetto existing during the occupation, the labor camp in Płaszów and the house of Oskar Schindler.
After the hardships of work, all groups of middle school students met in the former Emalia factory. Aleksander Palczewski, the Małopolska Superintendent of Education, congratulated not only the winners, but all who discovered important fragments of our city’s history.
We would like to thank the co-organizers for fruitful cooperation.
