WORKSHOPS FOR GRADUATES “MEET YOUR TEACHER”

Classes were held on March 26 at 15.00 and 16.00.

Women of Krakow.

In the political, artistic and literary space

On Wednesday, March 25, a scientific session and educational workshops were launched, the subject of which was the creativity and activity of three outstanding women associated with Krakow. This two-day event has become an extraordinary journey in time and through the different areas in which the protagonists of this project were created. We managed to combine the charisma of Queen Bona, the sensitivity of Wisława Szymborska and the nostalgia of Olga Boznańska.

The unusual subject of this project attracted not only students, but also modern women whose commitment and work are related to our city.

The scientific session began with speeches by Ms Katarzyna Matusik – Lipiec, Member of the Polish Parliament (Sejm), and Dr Katarzyna Cięćak, Deputy Mayor of the City of Krakow for Education and Sport. We were also honored by the presence of Aleksander Palczewski, the Małopolska Superintendent of Education and Mrs. Dr. Małgorzata Jantos, Councilor of the City of Krakow and the Chairperson of the Culture and Monument Protection Committee.

Later, the gathered guests and students listened to the speakers’ presentations. We were brought into the world of Wisława Szymborska’s poetry by dr hab. Michał Rusinek, Polish literary scholar, writer and translator from English, academic lecturer, secretary of Wisława Szymborska and president of the Foundation in her name. The topic of the next speech was the underestimated politics of an Italian woman, permanently inscribed in the history of our city, Bona Sforza. Her personality was introduced to us by Mrs. Anna Chachulska, Head of the Education Department of the Wawel Royal Castle. The last part of the session was devoted not only to the work, but above all to the personality of Olga Boznańska, presented to us by Mrs. Urszula Kozakowska-Zaucha, curator of the exhibition “Olga Boznańska” at the National Museum in Krakow.

The second day of the project was dedicated to educational workshops attended by middle school students. Workshops devoted to the activities of Bona Sforza took place in the Royal Chambers of the Wawel Castle, and literary and art workshops in the building of the VI Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. A. Mickiewicz in Krakow.

These two days were the undisputed festival of the activity and work of Queen Bona Sforza, Wisława Szymborska and Olga Boznańska.

UNESCO World Poetry Day

World Poetry Day is celebrated every year on March 21. It is a holiday established by UNESCO in the fall of 1999. The goal of this day is to promote reading, writing, publishing and teaching poetry around the world. UNESCO declared that the day was to “give a new impetus to appreciate poetry and support national, regional and international poetry movements.”

On the occasion of the UNESCO World Poetry Day, first-grade students discussed a contemporary poem telling the story of an emigrant – Island Man by Grace Nichols in English lessons. The task summarizing the poetry lessons was to write a poem about the same man, but in a new situation, using the original and his title as inspiration. Great poems were created. Congratulations to the young VILO poets !!!

Everything Is a Number – wycieczka klasy 1A1

On Thursday (16th April) our class 1a1 went with Mrs. Aleksandra Mach to see The Foucault pendulum and an exhibition

ʻʻEverything Is a Number”.

In the Church of Saints Peter and Paul we saw The Foucault pendulum which is a simple device conceived as an experiment to demonstrate the rotation of the Earth. For the first time the experiment was performed in this place in 1949. Again in 1991, and demonstrations take place regularly since 2000.
For the purpose of demonstration the organizers use the pendulum which is suspended on an oak beam in the dome of the church. The length of the pendulum is 46.5 meters, and the ball mounted on the bottom weighs 25 kilograms. During the experiment the ball of the pendulum is swung about 8 m, attached to the pillar and by burning a thread, the pendulum is set into motion. The ball goes back and forth, marking with a laser placed at the bottom of the ball, the trail consistent with a black line drawn on the carpet. After a few minutes the pendulum clearly descends from the black line. Not even after 10 minutes it can be seen that the ball leaned out to the right at an angle of two degrees – this is the effect of the Coriolis force, which is the result of the Earth’s rotational motion.

The exhibition ʻʻEverything is a numberʼʼ is located in the Jagiellonian University Collegium Maius, the seat of the Museum of the Jagiellonian University. It occupies three rooms on the ground floor of the building. The project aims to popularize mathematics, and show that it accompanies us in all aspects of our lives. The exhibition consists of 35 models by means of which you can perform 65 experiments illustrating the two areas: ʻʻIn the World of Geometryʼʼ and ʻʻNumbers Are Everywhereʼʼ.

The first room of the exhibition is dedicated to geometry.

  • Experiments:
    • The most famous theorem – Pythagorean theorem;
    • Projective geometry;
    • Mathematics in art;
    • Mathematics on the map;
    • Between dimensions;
    • Polyhedra.

Experiments in the second room allow spectators to get familiar with slightly more advanced geometric issues.

  • Experiments:
    • Topology – mathematics in a distorting mirror;
    • It started with a walk – The Graph Theory;
    • Knots are also mathematics;
    • Conic section.

In the last room alternative methods of counting are shown.

  • Experiments:
    • Math of scales and intervals;
    • Games with numbers;
    • Secret message;
    • World of ones and zeros.

We really enjoyed our small trip and we hope there will be more things like this in the future. Our class learned new things and saw theories we already knew in the new perspective.

Dominika Mikołajczyk, Julia Musiał i Izabela Zientarska, klasa 1a1.

April 23 – World Book and Copyright Day

World Book and Copyright Day is an annual celebration established in 1995 by UNESCO to promote reading, editing and protect intellectual property by copyright.

The idea of organizing the holiday was born in Catalonia. In 1926, his publisher, Vicente Clavel Andrés, performed with him. April 23 is a celebrated national holiday there, as the day of its patron saint – St. George. According to a long tradition in Catalonia, women were given red roses on this day to symbolize the blood of St. George the Dragon. Over time, women began to return men with gifts in the form of books.

April 23 is also a symbolic date for world literature. On this day, in 1616, Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega died (with the date of Shakespeare’s death given according to the Julian calendar, and the other two according to the Gregorian calendar). The same day also marks the birth or death anniversary of other prominent writers, such as Maurice Druon, Halldór Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo.

Currently, World Book and Copyright Day is celebrated all over the world – from New Zealand to Canada.

In our School this week, we are offering students a quiet reading session during breaks. Join us in the auditorium on Wednesday and Thursday for breaks at 10.45, 11.45 and 12.45.

Rest in silence with the book!

Welcome!

A. Eastwood, M. Brud, J. Trout

Remember: reading is fun !!!!

BOOK DAY IN CLASS 1H2

We were extremely satisfied, in the midst of the bustle and laughter, everyone found something for themselves! We are already planning ideas for the next literary events that we are looking forward to.

Congratulations on the 2nd place in the Krakow Power Event

On March 25 and 26, 2015 at the Electrical School Complex No. 1 at ul. Kamienskiego 49 in Krakow, the third edition of the sports competition Krakow Force Multiplayer KWS took place. The name KWS can also be read as K = fitness, W = endurance, S = strength. The competition creates an opportunity for young people from upper secondary schools in Krakow and the surrounding area to confront each other.

The task of the three-person teams participating in ‘KWS’ was to overcome the station circuits and perform specific exercises on them in the planned sequence and in the shortest possible time. The players (Paweł Gąsiorek, Mirosław Tyl and Dawid Wincenciak), under the supervision of Paweł Zgud, a physical education teacher, won the 2nd place!

Dawid Wincenciak was awarded the status of the best (fastest) competitor in the entire competition, out of all 14 high schools that participated in it, followed by Paweł Gąsiorek. The participants fought in three game zones arranged in the gymnasium. The organizers conducted team and individual classification.

Competitors taking part in competitions must demonstrate excellent condition preparation. Our students prepared for this competition long and reliably and with passion, as evidenced by winning the 2nd place !!! KWS uses the assumptions of multifunctional, cross and fitness and endurance training. The aim of the competition is to promote physical activity, a healthy lifestyle and fitness sports.

For sure, next year our team will start in KWS and will fight for the best place, as a reminder, last year we won 5th place, so the progress is quite significant!

We encourage everyone to practice sports and promote a healthy lifestyle, because, as you can see in the attached picture, only pluses can result from it.

Meeting with former prisoners of concentration camps – April 21, 2015

On April 21 in the auditorium of our high school there was a meeting with Ms Halina Krzymowska and Mr Stefan Lipniak. Halina was a prisoner of the concentration camp in Ravensbrück, where she and her mother were sent in 1944. In Ravensbrück, Ms Halina Krzymowska worked, among others in the construction of houses for SS officers, as well as in the sewing room.

In turn, Mr. Stefan Lipniak was arrested by the Gestapo on the night of June 26-27, 1941, and in a group of 800 young Poles he was first transported to Sosnowiec, and then to the forced labor camp Klein Mangersdorf. He spent a total of 44 months in the camps. For the last few months he has been working in the IG Farben factory in Monowice, unloading wagons with coal, wood, stones and bricks. In January 1945 he took part in a death march from which he and his friend managed to escape.

During 2 meetings with students in grades 1e, 1c, 1a2, 2e, 2c, we heard a story about the nightmare of life in the camp. Despite such hard experiences, our guests remained cheerful and they shared their stories with the students, but also a lot of warmth, hence it was so difficult to part.

We would like to thank Mrs. Alicja Klich – Rączka, who made this meeting possible.

What did the VILO MATURISTS need 3 COACHES for? – April 23, 2015

Simple: On April 23, 2015 they went to Częstochowa to talk to Our Lady about their further life path. As far as I know, they were also negotiating about the upcoming final exams …

And seriously: we left Krakow after 8.00. The first point of our pious journey was the Way of the Cross on the ramparts of Jasna Góra. After the service, we used the time for prayer, confession, adoration, visiting the museum, buying souvenirs and a meal.

At 4 p.m., in the chapel of the miraculous painting, we prayed the Rosary, which we offered for the intention of high school graduates, management, teachers, students and all employees of High School No. 6.

Immediately after the Rosary, the Holy Mass presided over and the sermon was delivered by our catechist, Fr. Robert Piwowarczyk. In his words, he emphasized that in life one should make the right choices: “And that is why in the hustle and bustle of the world you have to choose what is best and most beautiful; what is really necessary and timeless; which is sensible and wonderful. Our life is too short to chase after everything. Human intake is too limited to absorb everything. You cannot be a general warehouse or a garbage can. (…) Sometimes you have to give up many things that seem beautiful. Especially when the packaging is tempting. Only one thing cannot be renounced – Christ. Even when it is Christ crucified. “

Immediately after the Mass, we went to our coaches and this is how we ended this year’s pilgrimage of high school graduates. Thanks be to God for all the favors he has held!
