Free Krakow in the fight for freedom and unity of the whole nation.

With the memory of the 170th anniversary of the outbreak of the Krakow Uprising

On February 22, 2016, at the Krzysztofory Palace, in the Baltazar Fontana Hall, a debate was launched on the 170th anniversary of the Krakow Uprising. This event was completely extraordinary, because representatives of the world of science – prof. dr hab. Andrzej Chwalba, prof. dr hab. Tomasz Gąsowski and dr hab. Krzysztof Daszyk, representatives of the Polish Historical Society, branch in Krakow, and second grade students of the Secondary School No. 6.

As it turned out, the discussion was very emotional. This historical struggle was listened to by the students of junior high and high schools in Kraków with great curiosity, because on the second day of February 23, in the building of our school, debates were held between representatives of secondary schools. The first was also devoted to the correctness of the decision to start the Krakow Uprising, while the second concerned the history of the Free City of Krakow. Among the winners were students of the 2nd Gymnasium A. Mickiewicz in Krakow and the 4th junior high school Fr. J. Twardowski also from Krakow. We congratulate the winners and invite them to the next historical struggle.

The organizers of this project were the Board of Education in Krakow, the Historical Museum of the City of Krakow, the Polish Historical Society, Branch in Krakow and the VI Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. A. Mickiewicz in Krakow.

International exchange VI High School in Krakow and Sainte-Marie des Champs Secondary School in Toulouse 9.02 – 16.02.2016.

A great adventure with undeniable educational and cognitive value, which was a visit to Toulouse, has ended. Students returned to Poland full of new impressions and convinced that this is not the definitive end of this adventure, and the friendships made will stand the test of time and distance.

The aim of each exchange is to get to know people, culture and place, as well as to exchange experiences and information, and meet the linguistic, representative and organizational requirements. This time we managed to implement all the assumptions, at the same time opening the way to the full discovery of the beauty of French regions, their monuments, art, and places not related to traditional tourist routes – favorite cafes, small and peaceful shops, full of violet cosmetics and sweets, or places French youth rest.

When a group of Polish youth landed at the Toulouse-Blagnac airport, the stress of meeting new people, seemingly completely different and distant from them, was mixed with the desire to experience a different culture and customs. The fears turned out to be unfounded, because the French group, with its openness and smile, tried to facilitate acclimatization, at the same time bringing the realities of everyday life closer and showing the beauty of its charming town, called “la ville rose” – a pink city (due to the large number of buildings built of red brick) . Located in southwestern France, the city is a cluster of cathedrals and churches, as well as an important cultural and scientific center, which the students were soon to discover.

The main points of the program of Polish youth’s stay in France:

February 9 – On Tuesday, an excited group of young people from the VI Liceum im. Adam Mickiewicz in Krakow gathered at the Krakow-Balice airport to begin her week-long journey. On board a Brussels Airlines plane, it flew to Brussels, then went to the right place of stay – Toulouse. After a long and tiring journey, high school students could finally meet with French families and, despite the late hour and driving rain, lively tell about their impressions.

February 10 – After a warm welcome from the high school management, it’s time for a Polish-French sightseeing tour of the city. Polish students with their accompanying teachers and correspondents had the opportunity to see and visit the monastery of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Pont Neuf bridge and the town hall located on the square du Capitole – the undisputed symbols of the city. The students of the French school told about each of the listed monuments, as well as other visited places, reading previously prepared notes in French and Russian, which met with the warm approval of Polish youth. After completing the route planned for Wednesday, students from Poland had free time, which they spent with their correspondents.

February 11 – In the morning, the Polish group waited a specially prepared lesson entitled “Conquering of space by the Russians” carried out by a specialist from AIRBUS. Thanks to the Polish translation, the lecture was also clear to students who did not learn French. After an hour-long introduction to the secrets of the subject, it’s time to visit the high school, a small private school with a truly French, peaceful character. Then the Polish group went to the famous Cosmic Town, a place where you can learn everything about space flights and outer space. The 55-meter rocket “Ariane V”, the opportunity to “learn” the moon walk and the unusual planetarium were not the only attractions of this place full of tourists. After the Polish students returned to school, they were picked up by French correspondents who had finished their lessons.

February 12 – On Friday, Polish students had the opportunity to learn about the mode of study in France, because they participated in the first two lessons of their correspondents. It was not without surprises about the method of assessing and the length of classes as well as the distribution of breaks between lessons – or rather the lack of them, replaced by an hour-long passage in which the French eat a meal comparable in size to a Polish dinner. After the lessons, the Polish part of the exchange went on a tour of the city again, getting to know other corners of Toulouse – with the Basilica of St. Saturnin (entered on the UNESCO list) inclusive. The group, exhausted by a few hours’ escapade, returned to high school to watch a specially prepared performance in French and Russian “Chekhov-Molière”, with a paper translation into Polish. A storm of applause and friendly smiles was caused by the speech of one of the French, who announced the performance also in Polish. The short, but funny and well-prepared speech was concluded with a snack prepared by French peers. Among ordinary snacks, you could also find specialties of Russian cuisine – incl. dryers and kvass. After an eventful day, the Polish students returned with their correspondents to their homes, where French families were already waiting to sit together for a traditional dinner, written on each day, considered here as the proper lunch

13/14 February – Days spent in French families.

February 15 – The Polish-French group met in the morning at the secondary school in Toulouse, and then went by coach to Carcassonne – one of the greatest attractions in this area, as well as the whole of France. This mysterious and legendary city is crossed by the Aude River, which separates the historic part of the castle from the newer one. The medieval part of Carcassonne consists of two parts – la cité, meaning the upper fortified castle, and the lower town (la ville basse). The whole is surrounded by a double belt of ramparts and two rings of walls with gates and barbican, which are topped with 53 towers. Picturesque streets, gothic architecture and huge walls combine here with restaurants and shops full of tourists. It is a place of unique history and exceptional contrasts that enchants with its vastness and severity. After an exciting sightseeing tour and completing a short quiz prepared by Polish-French teachers, the students had free time, which they spent with their correspondents. It was the last day of our stay in France, so everyone tried to celebrate it in a unique way – some by participating in the Polish evening (after registration), and others intimately, in the homes of French families, exchanging last, affectionate opinions with some members.

February 16 – Early in the morning, French families drove Polish correspondents to the airport, where the groups said goodbye, not hiding their tears, but also smiling at the memories of the past week and the memories, being aware of their reunion in Poland. A hopeful group of Polish students and their carers boarded the plane. After changing trains in Brussels, they finally reached Kraków safely.

Exchange results:

Getting to know the wealth of history, culture, tradition and monuments of France;
Promoting respect for other cultures;
Getting to know the customs and customs of French students;
Developing language skills through communication in English, Russian and French;
Intercultural cognition, exchange of information and mutual experiences.

Spring premieres of the school theater! – 1.04.2016

Last Friday was marked by debuts in High School No. 6. At 4 p.m., zero minutes, there was a bustle in our school hall – the multitude of guests gathered and the prospect of the upcoming performance made for a wonderful, artistic atmosphere. The opening of the festival season was graced by a speech by Dr. Marlena Maciejewska – director, screenwriter and caretaker of both theater groups – motivating for the actors, and introducing for the guests. We started our theatrical odyssey with the debut of our debuts – the performance “The Journey” from the still modest repertoire of the Proscenium Junior group. Maintained in the atmosphere of the 1920s and 1930s, the story allowed viewers to move into the realities of the interwar period, recall old hits, or enjoy playing with Tuwim convention. After a short break – an exceptional event – a performance of the Proscenium Theater – or “Studniówka 82” – a story inspired by the memories of graduates of the 1980s from their school years. A group of high school students decide to organize an illegal party at the house of a communist’s son, while at the same time betraying the PRL system. Full of laughter and emotions, another musical journey that evening guaranteed the actors a storm of applause and standing ovation. Emotions actually “reached their zenith”!

WE INVITE YOU SOON FOR ANOTHER PERFORMANCES !!!

We encourage you to visit the photo gallery.

Groups learning Russian at the play Marriage

On Wednesday, March 30, we went with my friends learning Russian to the theater of the State Higher Theater School for a performance entitled “Marriage”. It is a dramatic work by Mikołaj Gogol, written in 1836 and first published six years later. It premiered in Poland in 1908. The main character of the play is Agafia Tikhonovna, who, at the urging of the matchmaker Fiokla, decides to appear as a representative of high society in order to raise her social position. The consequence of this decision is an extraordinary procession of various candidates for the girl’s hand, passing through her apartment.

Although the art is set in the contemporary times of the author of the work, its pronunciation is incredibly universal and has remained relevant. Gogol analyzes human attitudes and feelings and shows what is hidden in each of us: the fear of loneliness and rejection, and the dream of happiness. This work, played by young actors, has been modernized and slightly changed compared to the original. It is impossible to count all the references to pop culture in it, but the most interesting are: the music from the film “Apocalypse Now” by F. Coppola, the escape sequence from the animated cartoons “Scooby Doo” and the fight scene transferred straight from the games of the series “Mortal Kombat”.

All this made the comedy watched with even more interest, sometimes unable to contain tears of laughter. We evaluate the exit as very successful and, frankly speaking, we are looking forward to the next ones.

JOURNALIST WORKSHOPS at the Jagiellonian University

Choosing a field of study is not easy. However, in advance, students in 2e took steps to make this important life arrangement a well-informed decision.

At the invitation of the Institute of Journalism of the Jagiellonian University, representatives of the journalistic class VILO took part in workshops organized by academics from the University of Krakow. Among a number of different lectures and workshops (e.g. Radio sound editing; Social media promotions; Types of political divisions in Poland), two meetings enjoyed the greatest interest of our journalists:

“What do gestures say about us? That is, non-verbal communication in life and media.” Dr. Małgorzata Majewska and “Reality in photography. Photography beyond reality.” led by Sylwia Łęcka.

The effects of the meeting soon in “Sixth sense”!

KWS = CONDITION + ENDURANCE + STRENGTH – 6.04.2016

On April 6, 2016 the competition KWS = CONDITION + ENDURANCE + STRENGTH took place in the Electrical School Complex No. 1 at ul. Kamieńskiego 49 in Krakow.

This is the fourth edition of the KWS Krakowski Wieliczka Strength Youth sports competition. The name KWS should also be read as (K) stamina + (W) endurance + (S) strength.

The idea of creating the competition was born in 2012 and since then the event has been enjoying growing interest. The competition is played over two days. Competitors from lower secondary schools start on the first day, and from upper secondary schools on the second day. The players compete against each other in three game zones. The team competing in KWS consists of three players. Each of them must show great determination and will to fight. Competitors must have a condition, endurance and strength preparation. These parameters are not easy to train and do not always go hand in hand.

But our players from High School No. 6 each year manage to achieve better and better results.

In 2014, we won the 5th place, in 2015 we achieved the honorable 2nd place, and in this school year 2016 we won the 3rd medal place!

This year, most schools participated, not only from Krakow, but also from the surrounding area, there were a total of 14 of them.

The boys were preparing for the competition under my care, diligently and with passion and head.

They practiced hard and the result they achieved is impressive!

In addition to the honorable third place, the players in the composition:

Mirosław Tyl, Dawid Wincenciak and Patryk Fryda, coach: Paweł Zgud

they got a lot of gifts in the form of: tickets to martial arts, gyms, fitness classes and prizes.

It only increases the appetite for next year’s competition and of course winning the best place!

Because competitions are getting higher and higher in Krakow between upper secondary schools and each school is distinguished by participating in them.

So nothing but congratulations to the boys for their beautiful result and their willingness to play sports, because not all of them sit for hours at the gym, but practice various sports from football, cross fit, swimming, martial arts, cycling and many more versatile and athletic.

We make friends with the Dutch!

On April 6-8, we had the pleasure to host a group of 60 students with their teachers from Sancta Maria High School in Haarlem. Our guests took part in a workshop on national identity and tolerance organized by professor Anna Eastwood and Magdalena Brud. It was a great opportunity for our youth to get to know their peers, exchange views and establish a long relationship. Students from bilingual class 1a2 took part in the workshop. The theme of the group visiting us was World War II and Tolerance. After the meeting with our students, they would still visit the museum of Schindler’s Factory and travel to Oświęcim. After their return, the Dutch side prepared very interesting activities, which in some way summed up the purpose of their visit to Poland. The youth talked about the importance of history in the modern world, answered various questions, such as: Do we need the memory of what happened during the war? What is the point of passing it on to future generations? At the end of the Friday meeting, the students jointly prepared designs of traditional Dutch tiles on which they placed golden thoughts that were a specific message for both others and themselves. Our new Dutch friends cordially invite us to visit their country. Let us hope that we will manage to continue cooperation with such nice and open people.

The guests were warmly welcomed by the project coordinator A. Eastwood with the help of M. Brud

ERASMUS + – NITOK – Sweden – Olofstrom

In early April, twenty students went to Sweden for an exchange, where they spent 7 wonderful days admiring the beauty of Swedish nature and completing the NITOK (National Identity and Tolerance Olofstrom and Kraków) project.

Our youth had the opportunity to get to know the quiet Olofstrom, located in the southern part of Sweden, with only 13,000 inhabitants, as well as the port city of Karlskrona, where the Naval Museum is located. For the first time the students could look inside the submarine, and also see the main attraction of the museum, which was an exhibition of authentic models of ships. We also visited a nearby fort to find out, for example, what the cannon service and the defense of the city from the sea looked like.

Our hosts took care of our time, so every day they prepared something different for us. We were inside the Volvo factory, an old foundry, where we could find out what the metallurgical industry used to be like. Among the attractions, we were impressed by the sculpture exhibition located in the park adjacent to the Wanas manor house.

Our students could discover Swedish culture and cuisine all the time. Now we know that a dinner without sauce, extra bread and a glass of milk is not dinner. Fortunately, after such meals, we had time to regenerate and walk in the surrounding forests. On the last day, as part of completing the project, we had the opportunity to taste Smargostort, a sandwich cake, one of Sweden’s favorite ‘desserts’.

Thanks to the great atmosphere, polite Swedes and beautiful nature, those 7 days passed much too quickly. We can safely say that we are looking forward to next year’s exchange.

At the same time, we encourage first-grade students to participate in the exchange. Another trip next year!

Victory in the final round of the Qualifying Volleyball Tournament for the SKS League

The victory in the final round of the Qualifying Volleyball Tournament for the SKS Boys League from High School No. 6 allowed for the selection of two teams from Krakow – including our team from High School No. 6, which were promoted to the SKS 1st league for the next year 2016/2017

The boys have been actively and systematically taking part in SKS organized by trainer Paweł Zgud for 3 years.

The hard work and effort paid off, because for the first time in many years, the school’s volleyball team won the Qualifiers in their group and qualified for the Finals!

As the winners of the group, they got the opportunity to take part in the Final with the best teams from Krakow upper secondary schools and they won it !!! Without losing a single match.

In this way, this year and the 2015/2016 school semester we entered the 1st League as the first of two teams !!! And we had to face twelve, so we couldn’t have dreamed of a better result!

In this way, in a year, we will participate in the games of Krakow high schools in the First Volleyball League!

On my behalf, I would like to thank the boys, players and also my students, whom I now want to mention:

Maciej Krzyżanowski, Mirosław Tyl, Filip Frosztęga , Patryk Nguyen, Daniel Natkaniec, Kamil Nosek, Maks Kopczyński , Karol Strzeboński oraz Karol Bzdyl

They gave a really great example that with systematic work and effort put into the game and training, you can reach first place and Win!

I invite everyone willing to participate in SKS volleyball classes, which I am organizing, because in the new school year it will take even more work and effort to stay in the First League!

Congratulations to the team again !!!
