DISNEY Film Day – January 20, 2017

On January 20, as every year, in the walls of VILO, Film Day was held, this time devoted to Walt Disney’s cinema.

The plan of the event included: an expert lecture on the history of Disney led by Jacek Dziduszka, competition for the best outfit inspired by the theme and screening of the film “Inside out”, winner of the 2015 Oscar in the category: best animated film.

The first minutes after the official start of the Film Day brought an unexpected change. Unfortunately, due to a mishap, the speaker could not appear in person. His role was taken over by a high school student, privately a Disney fan, Magda Błaszczyk from class 3c, who gave a lecture, supported by extremely meticulous knowledge, covering the history, facts and filmography related to the title character.

Then there was a contest for the best Disney-inspired outfit. 37 students dressed in costumes from the films took part in the competition. Each participant had a moment to present their character on stage. Among them were, among others female versions of Peter Pan, Cruella de Mon (in two incarnations), characters from Alice in Wonderland, two Beautiful (and one Beast) or the heroes of the new Star Wars.

The next item on the agenda was (unexpectedly) karaoke. A spontaneous decision resulting from the change of plans resulted in songs from “The Lion King”, “Mulan”, “Hercules” and “Pocahontas” in a daring performance of soloists or ensembles consisting of entire classes (big applause for 2c for the performance of the song “I’ll make men of you” from the movie “Mulan”!).

The culmination of the Film Day was the screening of the 2015 movie “Inside out” by Disney Pixar.

After the show, the winners were announced and the awards for participation in the competition for the best costume were presented.

Finally, after counting the votes of the audience, the first place was taken by Maja Strzebońska from class 3c, dressed as Cinderella (winning the first place for the second year in a row). The second was Weronika Panek from class 1i, who appeared as Jessie from the movie “Toy story”. Third place went to Katarzyna Kubiak with 1b, dressed as Kim Possible.

The film day as the announcer was hosted by: Zuzanna Radek from 2c
The posters were made by: Zuzanna Dec and Julia Kasprzycka from 2c
The author of the photos is: Patrycja Zagaja from 1i
We owe the musical setting to: Ola Wartalska and Natalia Żmuda from 3e and Elise Alvarez from 3f

Italian Culture and Language Day

Lasciatemi cantare
con la chitarra in mano
Lasciatemi cantare –
– sono l’italiano!

Let me sing
with a guitar in hand
Let me sing –
– I’m Italian!

This year’s Italian Culture and Language Day was opened by the comedy dell’arte, that is: the skeleton of the script, the meat of words, as Dr. Monika Surma-Gawłowska put it in her lecture on the incredible history of Italian improvised theater. The beginnings of street acting are presented, cleverly pulled by the nose by sixteenth-century charlatans, awakened by the audience hungry for artificial blood, and finally spilled from Venice to all of Europe.
Sometimes it is better to listen to the hiss of a basilisk than to a singing woman, but our meeting was raised to the very gates of heaven with the help of elegant ladies and proud singers. The auditorium resounded with music, from baroque love songs like Caro mio ben performed by Martyna Raczek, through the nostalgic hit E Più Ti Penso, captivatingly sung by Casper the Grandpa, to the loud, full of Italian temperament Felicità, which sounded with the joyful voices of Ola Blitz Kwiek and Kwiek. and ending with the song L’essenziale in a charming interpretation of Karolina Krok.
Of course, it was not without the educational part, i.e. the presentation of students. The unification of Italy (Michał Morek and Nikodem Soroczyński), the union of Mickiewicz with Italy (and, undoubtedly, in Italy) (Aleksandra Ferek), Italian cinematography (Aleksandra Kwiek and Tomasz Mayka), and bold, controversial contemporary art (Weronika Bandarzewska) – all these topics they were eaten in one sitting and tasted almost as good as spaghetti alla carbonara. We were introduced to the brightest stars of the Apennine Peninsula, that is, all the devils living in theaters, including the most eminent composers, painters and photographers – with Olivier Toscani at the helm.
Curiosities were sprinkled from a sleeve. And yes, enthusiasts of Polish literature will surely be curious that Italians were the first to transfer Quo Vadis to the screens. And men fell in love with Italian medieval actresses so much that they poisoned them because of their fanatical love. And Rome was the only place that could keep our Prophet with it forever. And murderers in black gloves could only come out of Italian horror films.
Nessun dorma. Let no one sleep. The harlequin, swaying, disappears from the stage, love triumphs. We see you next year!

Report: Aleksandra Ambrożewicz, class 1c
Pictures: Karolina Chyb class 2c.

Israel 2017

From February 11 to 18, 2017, together with students from the VII Private High School named after Mikołaj Rej under the supervision of prof. Paweł Rogala, we went to Israel for a tourist and integration trip.

We spent the first three days in Benjamin, staying with Israeli families. We took part in school workshops on interpersonal communication, listening skills, and sensitivity to other people. Then we went on a trip to Tel-Aviv, looking for traces of Bauhaus, and in Jaffa – the ancient part of the city, we had a meeting at the Shimon Peres House of Peace with people who deal with Israeli-Palestinian dialogue. The next day, we set off on an expedition to beautiful caves in the north of Israel near the Lebanon border, and then to Galilee, where we visited many places related to Jesus’ activities and took a boat trip on Lake Gennesaret.

On February 15, we regretfully left the hospitable Benjamin. Continuing our journey, we went to Jerusalem. The first point was visiting Yad Vashem – the Holocaust museum. We also had a very interesting workshop there, “Jewish Street”, learning a lot about the pre-war situation of Jews in Poland, then we found the names of several Righteous Among the Nations in the Yad Vashem garden and read their merits. It was a day full of reflection and reflection.
Jerusalem surprised us with cold and rain. We started our tour from the Mount of Olives through the Way of the Cross to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. On the way, looking at lots of interesting, ancient places, we reached the Jewish Quarter and the Wailing Wall through the maze of streets.

On Friday we set off on another trip – this time to the Judean Desert to visit the fortress and the ruins of Herod’s Palace in Masada. In Qumran – we visited the place where the scrolls of the Holy Bible were found. in the caves there. We ended the day with a stay at the Dead Sea where we managed to do the so-called “Floating” in the extremely salty waters of the Dead Sea. The girls took care of the mud masks, which are similarly great for the skin.
On Saturday we managed to spend over two hours in Jerusalem before departure. This time the weather was fine. Jerusalem bade us farewell with sunshine….
Next year in Jerusalem …… Shalom!

Golden Jerusalem

I am sitting at the Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem. Between the Armenian and Christian district.

Jerusalem, surrounded by a wall by Suleiman the Magnificent, with eight gates leading to it, builds its balance by dividing into Jewish, Christian, Armenian and Muslim.

I watch the crowd passing by, drinking black tea with fresh mint leaves. That’s how they serve it here. An old Arab in kefiya (called by us arafatka) attracts the eye, religious Jews celebrate the Sabbath, priests rustle with cassocks, tourists look for souvenirs and good shots, a local seller pushes a small trike with supplies, a group of pilgrims in identical hats comes, the baker carries a huge tray on his head with sesame pretzels. Confessions and habits of nuns are mixed up.

The famous Israeli poet Yehuda Amikai used to sit in this place. In the poem “Tourists” he complained that the thousands of years of the city’s history are obscured by the current life:

Once I was sitting on the steps outside the gate of David’s keep, both of them
I put the heavy bags next to me. There was a group of tourists there
around the guide and served them as a landmark. “You see
the man with the bags? It’s a little to the right of his head
arch from the Roman period. A bit to the right of his head. But
has shifted! Shifted! I said to myself:
Liberation will come if they are told:
See that arch from the Roman period over there?
No matter, next to him, a little to the left, below, he is sitting
the man who bought vegetables and fruit for his home “

And in another poem he said that in the holy city of Jews, Christians and Muslims “the air is saturated with prayers and dreams like smog”. It cannot be otherwise, after all, the present Jerusalem, plundered and torn down, and rebuilt again lies on seventeen layers of ruins. This is what our guide explains. I wonder how many lives are hidden in this peculiar cemetery where the present city grew up. Although in spite of it, almost in the city center, in the basilica under the gray dome, not the most recognizable and the most splendid one – because it is made of gold, there is an “empty tomb”. The tomb of the One who, as his disciples made known to the whole world, is risen. For us Christians, it is a hope that, in a sense, illuminates the city.

Jerusalem shines in the sun with beige sandstone and the mosque of the Dome of the Rock, and in the evening it shimmers with lights that light up here and there on its wide, gentle hills, like a woman lying down to sleep. And so the city’s fragile harmony continues between Muslims, Jews and Christians.

Valentinstag Workshop – Valentine’s Day in German – 23/02/2017

On Thursday, February 23, workshops “Valentinstag” – “Valentine’s Day in German” took place in our school. Students of the first grades, under the supervision of their teachers, had the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity and language skills. Tasks performed in groups included, among others impersonating famous couples in the world of show business and playing dialogues that touch their daily “problems” and creating your own love poem. In the latter, the students proved their extraordinary poetic talent. The workshop ended with the loud singing of a group of almost 40 people, which showed that the song “Can you fell the love tonight” sounds equally good in both English and German. The 90-minute workshop was a good opportunity for mutual integration and was conducted in a very nice and friendly atmosphere
